Three seriously injured in Minnehaha County crash

Three people are seriously injured after a Minnehaha County crash Friday afternoon. It happened around 4:30 southeast of Baltic on Highway 115.

Trooper Matt Wosje with the South Dakota Highway Patrol tells KSFY News a southbound semi was stopped, waiting for traffic to clear so he could turn left. A GMC pickup was stopped behind the semi.

A Buick came up behind the stopped vehicles. It hit the GMC first, then a northbound red pickup, then the semi. The Buick was completely destroyed by fire.

The driver of the Buick is identified as a juvenile male. He told emergency responders that he was looking out at the fields and was distracted when the accident happened.

The Buick driver and a the woman driving the GMC were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

A ten-year-old riding in the GMC was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries.

The drivers of the semi and red pickup walked away from the accident.

Trooper Wosje says that alcohol was not a factor. He also confirms that the juvenile driver of the Buick was not texting or using his phone at the time of the crash.

Everyone was wearing their seatbelts.

Highway 115 was closed to traffic for several hours, but is reopened Friday night.
