Feeding South Dakota Valentine's Day fundraiser

Posted: Updated:

Hunger is a growing issue for many people in our community, especially children.

But this Valentine's Day, your gift could make sure a child does not have to worry about where that next meal will come from.

On Friday, you could go out to dinner, or you could feed a hungry child for an entire semester.

It is called Share Your Love and it is a fundraiser for Feeding South Dakota.

"For a donation of $75 Feeding South Dakota staff will deliver a rose and a Valentine's Day card that's been designed by a child of the community and we will deliver that to your loved ones home or office or wherever they are." Said BackPack Program Coordinator, Allison Struck.

She is behind this idea.

"Just to show our gratitude, and just to show them that for Valentine's Day maybe instead of a dozen roses or chocolates or perfume or something like that, someone thought about you and they donated to our organization." Struck said.

Your donation goes to filling a backpack with food for a child in Sioux Falls or a surrounding community.

$75 will feed a hungry kid for an whole semester.

"I think it's a great program and a great fundraising idea and an easy Valentine's Day gift." Said Social Worker for Homeless Education, Traci Jensen.

She helps schools find the kids who need a food backpack.

"You can go buy flowers and they're going to die in a few days and wilt. Or chocolates, and not all of us need more chocolates. So this is something where you can donate and help feed kids that may need some additional support in the area of food over the weekend." Jensen said.

Feeding South Dakota would like all orders to be in by noon Thursday.
