An eastern South Dakota teacher and coach has been indicted on child rape charges.
Jeff Nolte, 37, was charged with two counts of first degree rape of a child under 13 and sexual contact with a child under 16.
The acts allegedly began back in 2010 in Canton, while he was serving as a city commissioner.
The child in question was only 8 at the time.
Nolte has since moved from Canton to Madison.
He was a math teacher at Oldham-Ramona High School this year and is listed as the school's golf coach.
The victim was not a student of Nolte's.
He was arrested January 9 at his Madison apartment. Nolte is now out on a $75,000 bond.
If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
