Touchstone Energy Scholar Of The Week: Shelby Selland

Posted: Updated:

Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is Shelby Selland from Sanborn Central High School.

Shelby has a 4.03 grade point average. She plays basketball, track and volleyball.
She's also a member of the National Honor Society and is president of the Student Council.

Shelby Selland's above average grade point average is the result of an above average work ethic.
Shelby is tackling Nutrition, A-P Calculus, Advanced Chemistry, Government and English 4.
So....what does it take to maintain a 4.03 grade point average? "It takes a lot of hard work and I think time management is just really important...you know with sports and that kind of thing...you just have to use your time really wisely."

Shelby plays on the Sanborn Central basketball team. Basketball will play a role in Shelby's future this coming Fall. "I plan on going to Augustana and I am going to play basketball there. And I am leaning towards something in the health field but I'm not entirely for sure what. I just know that I want to work with little kids."

Shelby mentors elementary aged kids now with their studies.
Shelby's science teacher Tracy Moody tells us....Shelby has a real gift for education...both hers and others. "Shelby is obviously fantastic in the classroom. She takes a lot of upper level classes to prepare herself for college. I've had her in Anatomy, Advanced Chemistry, Physics...so I have gotten to know her very well."

As for what Shelby will study at Augustana College.....she is not quite sure yet on all the specifics....but she has some time. "I would like to be doing something that I can kind of stay active..not just sit at a desk all day. I want to be working with little kids or with younger people and just try to make their lives a little bit better I guess."

For being named our Scholar of the Week, Shelby will receive a $100 scholarship from Central Electric Cooperative Association...which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
