Update: Missing SD inmate now back in custody

UPDATE: A state work release inmate reported missing earlier today in Rapid City is back in custody.

 

Inmate Scott Kallstrom returned to the Rapid City Minimum Unit this evening. Escape procedures were enacted earlier today after Kallstrom's work release employer reported that he never showed up at the job site. 

 

ORIGINAL STORY:

RAPID CITY, S.D.- Department of Corrections staff members and local law enforcement are searching for a missing state prison inmate in Rapid City.

Inmate Scott Kallstrom left the Rapid City Minimum Unit earlier today to go to his work release job, but his employer reported that he never showed up at the job site.

Kallstrom, age 33, is a white male. He is 6-feet-3 inches tall and weighs approximately 265 pounds.

He is currently serving an 8-year sentence for fifth-offense DWI out of Pennington County.

Anyone who sees Kallstrom or knows of his whereabouts should contact law enforcement immediately.

There are more than 900 minimum-security inmates housed across the state. Nearly 200 of those inmates are on work release status, including 56 in the Rapid City area.
