Friends remember teens killed in Sunday's crash

Posted: Updated:

Families and friends are mourning two Sioux Falls teenagers.

17-year-old Raphie Phan and 19-year-old Amanda Doty were killed early Sunday in a crash just west of Sioux Falls.

This deadly crash happened near Wall Lake along 463rd Ave.

KSFY News spoke with a neighbor, Lee Kriens, who said she heard when the teens crashed.

This accident is not the first time drivers have taken the curve too fast

"It's marked that it's a curve and it's 40 MPH, but I don't know if people just don't pay attention to it, especially if you've never driven it before. The ones who are used to driving it, we know it's there we know at what speed we're comfortable doing. But yeah, it's a very dangerous corner." Kriens said.

Friends of the teens said the fact that they were so young makes it even sadder.

Ciara Larson was good friends with Raphie and said he had such a spark to him.

She said he would talk to everyone and was always able to make people laugh, "It's unreal. You just wish someone would say it's a joke and that he'd be here right now cracking us up."

Ciara said Raphie brightened any room he walked into, "Life of the party. He could come into a room with 10 quiet people and make everyone talk within the matter of 2 seconds. His smile was the brightest thing. He was one of the happiest people I ever met."

She said the 17-year-old loved being around his friends and making people smile, "Raphie was one of the greatest people I know. He always had the brightest smile and he knew how to make anyone's day. If you were upset and you had problems, you could call him up and he would know exactly what to say and be able to comfort you in any way possible."

Ciara holds the last time she saw Raphie close to her heart, "He left with an 'I love you' and a hug. That's all I can really be thankful for and the memories."
