Watching Olympic hockey over lunch

Posted: Updated:

Wednesday, all eyes were on the USA men's hockey team, who defeated the Czech Republic 5-2 in the quarter finals.

That game aired live in the US late this morning.

KSFY News stopped by a few bars and everyone was excited to watch the game live over their lunch hour.

A number of them snuck away from work to catch some of the action.

By noon Wednesday, Buffalo Wild Wings near the arena was packed.

The restaurant actually opened an hour early today so people could come in and watch the game, which a few people took full advantage of.

But overall, the manager said they were not much busier than normal because the Olympic schedule is so last minute.

People who could get away from work, though, were happy to watch the game in a sports bar atmosphere.

Zach Neugebauer said he was really happy it was live and not on replay.

He watched the game when former stampede player TJ Oshie won the shootout on replay, but already knew the outcome.

He said that took some of the fun out of it.

But today was goal-for-goal excitement.

"I know a lot of the players are from Minnesota or North Dakota. So that's pretty cool and a lot of these guys are young and they're playing great. I'm not a big hockey fan but I enjoy watching it in the Olympics, it's a fun time to watch." Said Neugebauer.

Since team USA won today, we'll be playing Canada on Friday at 11.
