Verifications, Inc. in Watertown, a company that does background checks, will be closing its doors by the end of August. This means about 130 employees will lose their jobs. The company used to have buildings in Aberdeen and Mitchell, but these locations closed down as well.
In November Minnesota Rubber and Plastic in Watertown announced that they were closing. This laid of 180 workers, and the South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation helped these workers find new jobs. Manager Lisa Johnson says they have not got in contact with Verifications, Inc. yet, but she says she wouldn't be surprised if they were contacted soon.
"With Minnesota Rubber, we were able to go into their facility and meet with dislocated workers," said Johnson, "That's what we do to help people have been laid off by no fault of their own."
There are jobs available in the Watertown Area.
"In Watertown right now, there's 389 jobs open, but in our service area there are almost 600," said Johnson.
