A Sioux Falls actor will be anxiously watching the Oscars this Sunday on KSFY, waiting to see if he can say he had a role in an Oscar-winning film.
Sioux Falls actor Kevin Kunkel had a significant speaking role in the Oscar-nominated film ‘Nebraska.'
Kunkel said he learned about the opportunity after Cinema Falls executive director Julie Anderson Friesen sent out an email notification to a local Sioux Falls acting group, letting them know that ‘Nebraska' was being shot just a few hours away and looking for extras.
After learning about the opportunity to work with award-winning director Alexander Payne, Kunkel eagerly began the audition process. He was able to get a significant speaking role in the film.
"I've done a lot of films but nothing of that magnitude and just to see how it all works and how it all comes together and every single person doing their job. I used to just sit back and watch them do it," said Kunkel.
The film ‘Nebraska' has six Oscar nominations including Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Picture.
Kunkel says whether the film wins or not, he is honored to simply be a part of an Oscar-nominated cast.
"To be in something that is nominated is unimaginable you know...I'm a guy from South Dakota...for me just being a part of it is tremendous," said Kunkel.
If you weren't able to catch ‘Nebraska' when it was in theater, the movie was just released on DVD this week. When you watch the show, look for Cousin Randy—Sioux Falls' own Kevin Kunkel.
