Minnehaha Co. liquor sting reminds businesses to check for ID

Posted: Updated:

The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Department arranged a sting operation last night to see how easy it is for minors to buy alcohol.

One local bar owner tells us one of the consequences of not checking for proper ID.

Many of us over the legal drinking age still get carded for id, and for bars like Norby's here in dell rapids, there's a good reason for that.

Owner Deb Brobjorg keeps things in order.

"I've had conversations with that and flashbacking my mind right now that we need to understand that if we lose our liquor license, you lose your job, I lose my livelihood, and we're done," Brobjorg said.

Minnehaha County Sheriff's Department ran a liquor sting Tuesday night. and Norby's passed.

"Here, we use our common sense, under 30, if you think they're under 30, card them. And sometimes you can get busy and one can get away from you but for the most part we really do diligence to get these people carded," Brobjorg said.

And Deb makes sure her staff knows there's more to their job than serving drinks.

"When you're working a shift and somebody comes in, and you haven't ID'd them, then there's consequences for that," Brobjorg said.

Paying attention to signs like this could make a difference whether these doors stay open or closed.

Deb tells us her staff and her customers are part of her Norby's family.

She says the people who work for her know what they're supposed to do but we're all human and people make mistakes.
