RibFest to feature huge headliners

Posted: Updated:

Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rick Springfield, Loverboy -- those are just a few of the names that will be performing at the 17th Annual RibFest.

Half of the proceeds are going to a great cause, the Breannan Rock and Roll Academy.

Organizers says this will be a RibFest like no other. This is the first time the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy will be co-sponsoring the event.

Chuck Brennan says the festival will be full throttle the moment the gates open at 4 p.m. on May 29.

Take a look around and you see rock starts like Dee Snider from Twister Sister, Tom Keifer of Cinderella and Stephen Pearcy of RATT.

"All of these people are here to celebrate the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy and to help support RibFest which is going to be the biggest community gathering of the summer," said Brennan.

And it's all about the kids. 50% of the proceeds will go to the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy.

The kids from the academy will even show off their skills on the main stage during the weekend festival.

"It reminds you when you're starting out and that excitement of learning and picking up an instrument and learning it. There's nothing like that feeling and you can relieve that when you're watching a kid picking it up and learning it for the first time," said Tom Kiefer of Cinderella.

More than 700 free music lessons were given here last month alone. The academy teaches kids skill they may not have known they had.

"A kid would never know unless they had an opportunity that they do have some kind of gift in playing guitar or drums or singing. So it's brilliant," said Stephen Pearcy of RATT.

And while the kids may not know who some of these rockers are...

"I don't know if the kids are so excited to meet us as the parents are. The kids are going to be 'who are you?' and the mom's going to be like 'oh, you know - -we're not going to take it --'  'oh I saw that on Sponge Bob," said Dee Snider of Twisted Sister.

The festival is sure to be full of good food, good music and it's for a good cause.

"So come to the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy," said Pearcy.

Brennan says he's looking at this as a long-term partnership with SMG, the arena and RibFest.

He calls this the new and improved RibFest. Brennan says he will bring the entertainment each year.

RibFest runs May 29 through June 1 at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. Tickets go on sale March 7 at the Sioux Falls Arena Box Office and Ticketmaster locations.

KSFY is a media sponsor of this year's RibFest.
