Conde woman dies in house fire

Posted: Updated:

A Conde woman has been killed in a house fire, and her husband is being treated for severe burns in a Minneapolis hospital. The fire broke out early Sunday morning, and there is almost nothing left of the house.

It was around 5 a.m. and temperatures were nearing 18 below when local firefighters responded to a call from neighbors. "We got there, and the house was totally engulfed, we had already lost the roof at that time," Conde Fire Chief Ron Worlie said.

When Firefighters arrived they found the 50-year-old man who lived in the hosue outside. He was badly burned and had head injuries. They searched for his 41-year-old wife, and quickly determined she was still in the house.

"We immediately did the searches for personnel and realized we had one occupant in the house at that time, but the flames had taken over," Worlie said.

There was nothing they could do. The house was old, and it did not take long for it to burn to the ground.

It has not been determined what started the fire. The house did have several mechanisms to heat the house, including a wood burner, baseboard heaters and a propane heater.

The names of the couple are being held from the public right now, but they should be released on Tuesday.
