Sixth grader and her father speak about Redfield incident

Posted: Updated:

It has been over a week since a Redfield 6th grade substitute teacher allowed for a junior in high school to humiliate students. Isaac, a Redfield junior, was a helper in the 6th grade art class. He decided since a substitute was there, he was going to take charge, and he did. Students say the substitute teacher did nothing.

"She just walked around the room, and just ignored it," Redfield 6th grader, Kylie Risetter said.

Kylie said that Isaac told her class if they weren't quiet, they were to lie on their stomachs and shove their faces into the dirt on the floor. At times he even sprayed students with a spray bottle used to clean the white board. She added that he walked around the classroom and snapped a metal ruler on their desks near their hands. He never made contact with anyone, but he did scare the students.

Kylie's father, Matt Risetter, said Kylie had to stay home from school a day because she was so shook up and didn't want to go back.

"I feel that the kids endured 45 minutes of torment. A lot of them are traumatized," he said.

Redfield Public School administrators say the issue has been taken care of. Some parents, such as Matt, are not very happy about how long it took the school to contact them about the incident.

"My daughter came home with a letter in her bag from the school saying an incident took place on February 25th, and yesterday was March 4th," he said, "We are finally being informed."

Matt brought the incident to the attention of local law enforcement, and the Spink County Sheriff's Department is continuing to investigate.
