The Parrot Heads of the Prairie, a not-for-profit chapter of the Jimmy Buffett Fan Club, is hosting the Make a Difference 2014 fundraiser at the El Riad Shrine Friday, March 7 from 7pm until midnight. Doors open at 6:30pm. You can get tickets at the door or online. Tickets cost $15.
This year's fundraiser will benefit three different groups. One is Horsepower (formerly Handiriders). Horsepower uses horses to help with therapy sessions with children.
Spirit Camp is another group benefiting from the fundraiser. Spirit Camp is a week-long camp for children with spina bifida.
The third group is Camp New Hope (formerly Camp Jess). Camp New Hope is a four-day camp for children who have suffered a significant loss, like a parent or a sibling.
As you come in Friday night, you will receive a lei at the door. As you turn the corner, there will be a tiki bar and beach scene. You can enjoy margaritas while listening to Cruize Control, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band from Missouri.
You can also do some shopping at the fundraiser! Living on Island Time is closing shop this year and will be selling tropical-style clothes at the fundraiser. There will also be 30 baskets up for raffle and eight silent auction items to bid on.
All proceeds from this event go to the three groups.
