Brave souls jumped for the Polar Plunge in Huron, Saturday

Posted: Updated:

Despite a warm-up on the way in our forecast, taking a dip into water outside may be the last thing on our minds.

In Huron, Saturday, if it was for a good cause, it was hard to say no.

More than 200 people gathered at the Ravine Lake where 50 brave souls took that jump -- or should we say plunge -- into icy cold water for the annual Polar Plunge.

The event is a staple for the South Dakota Special Olympics and one this group looks forward to every year.

This year, participants raised $18,000 to help fund things like state tournaments and travel expenses, uniforms and various practices.

If you'd like to donate, there's still time. Go to  for another month. Just choose a team, and send in your secure donation. If they want to donate to their local chapter, go to:  Individuals can donate to a Polar Plunge in their area.

Special Olympics is always looking for support for the kids. If you are interested in being a coach, volunteer, or to donate some other support; contact the state office. They will be more than happy to assist with getting you started.
