(ABC9 News) - More details in the killing of a Yankton man are outlined in court documents, including that the man charged with the murder is believed to have used a blacksmith hammer to kill his uncle.
Joshua Hudson, 28, is charged with Homicide as Murder in the Second Degree, Aggravated Assault and Grand Theft. Josh's uncle, Todd Hudson, was found dead at his trailer on Friday morning after police were called to the scene.
Court documents state that Josh used a "blacksmith hammer" to knowingly cause bodily injury to his uncle with the dangerous weapon.
The documents also show that Josh went to see Todd's ex-wife after he killed him. She claims Josh called her and told her that "I axed my uncle."
Todd's ex-wife said Josh came to her home and told her to get the kids and go with him. She refused to go and he eventually took off on his own. Before he left Josh again stated that he "had to axe him at home in his chair."
When officers arrived at Todd's trailer they found him lying dead in a chair with a large pool of blood on the floor.
Josh was later spotted driving in Sioux City and was captured after leading police on a high speed chase. In the trunk of his car they located the sledge hammer with what appeared to be blood and hair on it.
A preliminary hearing for Josh Hudson is scheduled for March 19 at 1:30 p.m.
