Update: Dell Rapids standoff suspect arrested

A standoff south of Dell Rapids has ended with suspect Tahlen Bourassa in custody.

The standoff started around 6:00 Wednesday evening. Police say they got a tip Bourassa was in a building in rural Minnehaha County. By the time they arrived on scene, he was in a car in a garage. 

Police say they believe he had a pipe and a knife. They say he was a danger to himself.

Minnehaha County Sheriff mike Milstead says Bourassa was taken to a hospital for an evaluation, "We do a mental health evaluation to make sure he's not a threat to himself or others right now. In particular, a threat to himself because he is in our custody."

Minnehaha County law enforcement are engaged in a standoff south of Dell Rapids Wednesday evening.

The suspect is 20-year-old Tahlen Bourassa, who is wanted for felony ingestion of a controlled substance. He is the subject of a day-long search by the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Department. They believe he was using meth and was possibly armed.

Bourassa was seen near Dell Rapids earlier Wednesday, and when officers tried to pull him over, they say he sped off.

SWAT members have been on scene south of Dell Rapids for several hours, and have been attempting to negotiate with Bourassa.
