James won't apply for USD job

Posted: Updated:

On Tuesday,  USD announced that they have opened a national search to hire a head men's basketball coach.

Coyote Athletic Director David Herbster told KSFY he wanted Joey James, who was the Coyotes interim head coach this past season, to be a candidate and a part of the process.   He also told James, it would tough for him, as well as any candidate to land the job.

On Wednesday, James told KSFY that he will "not" be applying for the position.

James was named the Coyotes interim head coach shortly before the start of this past season, after the sudden resignation of longtime head coach Dave Boots.  The team went 12-18 overall.

James was an assistant under Boots for 10-years before that, and was also a former Coyote player.
