Garretson girls at first state tourney since 1980

Posted: Updated:

For the Garreston girls basketball team,  this March truely is madness as they make a return to the state a girls basketball tournament after a 34 year absence.

"It's a great thrill the kids are exctied the student body is excited and the towns excited." says head coach Dave Mudder.

For a team that lost 11 games this year to make the state tourney they needed a little momentum and a senior leader to take charge.

"Our one senior Haylee Edminson shes our leader on and off the court." says Mudder.

"As a senior, I kinda just took charge and this year is our year.  It's been 34 years I think we all looked at that said this year was our year."  says Haley Edmundson.

This veteran lead Blue Dragons team will have a tough hill to climb as they take on number one ranked St. Thomas More,  but its a task the Blue Dragons are willing to face.

"We're going out to prepare like we do any other game and we're going out there to play we are going to leave it all on the floor and were going to go out and play." says Mudder.

"I think we've worked on our defense to handle whoever we are playing, we have worked on both ends, but our defense will be the key in the state tournament." says Edmundson.
