For the fifth straight year the Sioux Falls O'Gorman Knights are state tournament bound. The Knights defeated Watertown and in-town rival Sioux Falls Roosevelt en route to a District 1AA title.
"It's exciting we've made it five years in a row now and just really proud of this group of kids. We had a little adversity in the middle of the season lost a couple of basketball games but boy I thought we really gained some momentum and some confidence and I feel like we are playing our best basketball at tournament time right now." says head coach Kent Kolsrud.
"It feels great being with these girls for all four years and just finally having that opportunity to finish out your season strong at the state tournament it's just the biggest blessing you could ever have." says senior Rachel Wilson.
For O'Gorman girls athletics this year, state title's haven't been uncommon. This fall the Knights won the state soccer title, the state tennis title, the state volleyball title, and the state cheer title. The basketball team hopes that success continues this weekend.
"We've had a lot of success here and success builds success and these kids have been in a lot of pressure situations and they know what it's all about and those experiences are invaluable and we hope those experiences play into the state tournament as well."
"We know we can go into the state title and have the pressure on us and go and win it so having that in our back pocket and be able to go into a high pressure game and win a state title we all know we can do it." says junior Jessica Mieras.
And the Knights know that the cherry on top of an already great athletic year, would be a basketball championship.
"That would be probably the best thing ever but there is eight other teams also trying to compete for that one title spot." "We just have to play with effort, come out and play with some passion and we can pull out with a win."
