Governor picks reps for SD trade mission to China

Posted: Updated:

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Gov. Dennis Daugaard says representatives from 11 companies and groups will join him on his next trade mission to China.

The governor and other state officials will travel to China in mid-May. It will be Daugaard's third trade mission to the world's most populous nation.

Daugaard says exporting is essential to growing the state's economy, and the Chinese market offers "tremendous" opportunities.

One company sending a representative on the trip is Advanced Sunflower of Huron, which already exports to China. Co-owner Danny Dale says the Chinese people like the quality of U.S. sunflower seeds.

Others going on the trip are with companies and groups in Rapid City, Aberdeen, Canton, Lake Norden, Watertown, Mitchell, Brookings, Alexandria, Milbank and Sioux Falls.
