MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) - A South Dakota judge has sentenced a man charged with raping a child to 70 years in prison with 30 of them suspended.
Judge Tim Bjorkman sentenced 31-year-old Joshua Bullis on Friday. Bjorkman told Bullis that the purpose of his sentence is to ensure he spends the rest of his life either in custody or on parole supervision.
The Daily Republic reports the Mitchell man pleaded guilty in January to first-degree rape.
Authorities say the man abused the child while video chatting online last year.
The defense attorney told Bjorkman that Bullis is remorseful for is actions. The attorney said Bullis was a victim of sexual abuse as a child.
Bjorkman said Bullis' actions passed on the abuse to "another generation."
Bullis' first parole hearing will be in 2033.
