Fruit Club makes way to Aberdeen

Posted: Updated:

Thursday marked the first day of spring, and people are ready to start eating some fresh fruits and veggies. Since it's not quite warm enough to get that garden growing, a new group in Aberdeen are keeping people satisfied.

The Fruit Group is a newer group to the Aberdeen area. Once a month the group has fresh fruit shipped to Aberdeen from California, Florida and other tropical areas. The truck unloads in the parking lot of the Aberdeen Ihop, and people from all over make their way to get some fresh food.

"They find small family run orchards that they don't use any of the harmful chemicals. Then they send a truck down and it's picked up and brought up to us in a matter of a few days," Aberdeen coordinator Erica Atkins said.

The parking lot is usually packed with people. In fact, the Aberdeen area Fruit Club group on Facebook has already surpassed 400 members.

Though the group prefers pre-ordering, they do often have leftovers for people to purchase. The truck will be in the Ihop parking lot this Saturday morning from8 to 9:30.
