Sioux Falls Police continue to search for a killer

Posted: Updated:

Police haven't made any arrests in the homicide of Kari Kirkegaard.

She was found dead in her Sioux Falls home last weekend.

It's been several days since Sioux Falls police confirmed the city's first homicide of the year.

So far, police have no names for a suspect but several tips have been pouring in.

And they can use everyone's help.

The investigation into the death of Kari Kirkegaard continues to move forward.

Police released a surveillance video this week showing the person detectives believe is responsible.

They also released an enhanced photo of the suspect.

Police believe that person arrived in her neighborhood on a bike, drove around in her car, returned it to her home, and then took off on the bike again.

Many have called in to Crime Stoppers with tips.

Police say most of those leads focus on a possible name for the suspect; the suspect's bike;  the missing bedding from Kari's house; and her 1998 Ford Explorer.

Sioux Falls Police officer Sam Clemens said "we want this information to come in. If they haven't viewed it, to please view it and if you see anything that strikes a chord. You may recognize the person or the walk or clothing. If you saw a vehicle, the back end of her vehicle has been out there as well. So if you see that or have seen that, especially over the last weekend, we'd want people to call police with that information."

Solving this homicide is a top priority for Sioux Falls Police.

Many detectives are working on the case along with the "Crimes Against Persons unit," the Minnehaha County Sheriff's office, and the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigations.
