A South Dakota Highway Patrol SUV was involved in an accident and the trooper was cited, Sunday afternoon, after colliding with a pickup.
Just before 6:00 p.m., Sioux Falls Police were called to the intersection of 41st Street and Sertoma Avenue. The investigation shows the Highway Patrol SUV was traveling westbound on 41st Street in the far outside lane with its red lights and siren activated. As the Highway Patrol SUV was approaching the intersection, police say it was clear.
The SDHP vehicle traversed the intersection through a red light and struck a vehicle that was northbound on Sertoma Avenue on a green light. The collision caused disabling damages to both vehicles. The occupants of the pickup were seen by an ambulance but did not require immediate medical attention.
The state trooper was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device.
