Article raises questions about support for U.S. Senate candidate Rick Weiland

Posted: Updated:

A new article in The Hill reveals little support on Capitol Hill for South Dakota's lone Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate.

The article, published Tuesday, says while the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is expected to endorse Rick Weiland, he wasn't the first choice.  The article says Majority Leader Harry Reid was trying to convince Stephanie Herseth Sandlin to get in the race.

The article says Reid has publicly trashed Weiland in the past and the Democrats chances of holding on to retiring Senator Tim Johnson's seat is "a lost cause."

But the article also says the race tightens, vote for the independent candidate, former Republican Senator Larry Pressler, could take enough votes away from the Republican nominee, and help deliver Weiland the win.
