Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week: Cooper Eliason

Posted: Updated:

Tonight's Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week is Cooper Eliason, a senior at Howard High School.
Cooper has a 3.7 grade point average.

In addition to being a great student, he is also very active with the Future Farmers of America and spends a lot of his extra time volunteering in his community.

Cooper Eliason is a busy guy.
When he's not in band, he's tackling a class schedule that includes Government, Sociology, Pre-Calculus, English and Ag Mechanics.
But Cooper Eliason is also a young man of character.
Listen to what he's going to do following high school graduation. "I actually am going to go on a 2 year church mission right after high school. I am working on some paperwork now, medical and background paperwork. As soon as I graduate I hope to be able to go....wherever. They will let me know where I will be able to go."

Cooper is a member of the LDS Church.
It's common for men of his age to go on mission trips.
He doesn't yet know where he is going....but says he is ready to go. "A lot of people ask me why I am going to do it. But I think it will be a great opportunity to go and help people and to really broaden my knowledge of different places."

As for his work inside the classroom, it is unmatched says his FFA advisor, Charlene Weber. "Cooper is an exceptional student. He shows great leadership skills and always has. He's always a natural born leader. He'll help anybody from a Shop class to an Animal Science class. Phenomenal public speaker. He's tutored younger students in the grade school...Kindergarten,...in the Leadership class."

When Cooper returns from his mission trip, he is hoping to go to college at South Dakota State University in Brookings, but says he also wants to serve others while at SDSU. "I have decided either Ag Systems Technology or Ag Education. I'd also like to do some military within that. Either Air National Guard or the Army ROTC program at SDSU."

For being named our Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week, Cooper will receive a $100 scholarship from Central Electric Cooperative Association....which is a local Touchstone Energy cooperative.
