Blizzard covers South Dakota

Posted: Updated:

Spring is here, but northern South Dakota is getting hit by another blizzard. Wind gusts up to 63 mph have hit the area, and they only continue to get worse.

The blizzard did not hit Aberdeen until around 4 p.m. when sleet began to fall and later turned into snow. The blowing snow made visibility minimal.

Aberdeen expected snowfall earlier in the day. This caused local schools to close at 12:30. When no snow came. People became hopeful that it wasn't going to come at all.

"I figured when I got up and came to work there would be snow on the ground. Since they said by one o'clock it should start snowing, and it really hasn't, hopefully it's going to miss us, and we won't have to worry about snow anymore," Kessler's worker Tim Hostetter said.

Kessler's Food and Liquor was packed with people today. Parents and their kids were buying all the essentials in preparation for the big storm that is expected to run well into midnight for the Aberdeen area. By morning the snow is expected to stop falling, and roads will begin to be cleared off.
