Aberdeen cleans up after blizzard

Posted: Updated:

Snow blowers and snow plows of all sizes were out in force in Aberdeen Tuesday after a spring storm hit the area. The blizzard dropped more than 3 inches of snow in Aberdeen, and high winds blew that snow around, creating some big drifts. Gusts in the area reached up to 53 mph making visibility tough.

"I couldn't see very well, had my high beams on, that wasn't helping any," Merrell Ness said. Ness lives in south of Aberdeen, and he has to travel on highway 281 to get home. "Roads were clear it wasn't too bad this morning," Ness said.

The decent weather made it possible for snow plows to get out right away to clear roads. There wasn't that much snow, but thanks to the wind, some snow drifts were causing problems for drivers.

It's the responsibility of local businesses to clear their parking lots, and sidewalks.

"We have to keep the side walk cleared and the parking lot. We have someone that comes in and does that for us, the parking lot part of it, and the sidewalk we take care of ourselves," said Ness. He works at O'Reilly Auto Parts in Aberdeen.

Within city limits, the city of Aberdeen has a system that has proven to be successful. They send plows out to 16 different routes, hitting emergency routes first followed by the residential areas.
