The future cancer center in Aberdeen will honor long-time Northern State basketball coach Don Meyer.
Avera announced today Don and Carmen Meyer Center of Excellence – a 25,000 square foot facility that will house the Avera Cancer Institute – Aberdeen.
Meyer long held the record for most wins by a men's basketball coach. He retired from Northern after 38 years of coaching in 2010. Just two years earlier, Meyer was diagnosed with cancer. Doctors discovered the liver and intestinal cancer during an emergency surgery after a car crash.
Avera St. Luke's officially launched their capital campaign for the new facility today.
Stay with KSFY and KSFY.com for updates on this Aberdeen development. We'll have a special interview with Don Meyer tonight on KSFY News at 5, 6 and 10.
