Farmers begin planting spring wheat in South Dakota

Posted: Updated:

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Seeding of spring wheat has begun in South Dakota, but farmers in most areas of the state have not yet started spring planting.

The Agriculture Department says in its latest crop and weather report that there were nearly six days suitable for fieldwork over the past week. Many farmers are busy getting planting equipment ready and spreading fertilizer on their fields.

Both topsoil and subsoil moisture in the state is rated 85 percent adequate to surplus.
