Sioux Falls fire cadets got some hands-on training Thursday near the Sioux Falls Airport. They learned how to deal with natural gas fire emergencies, how to care for burn victims, and safety considerations when helicopter medical transport is necessary.
There's a lot of incentive to succeed. In addition to being ready for real emergencies, the cadet with the highest score on the most recent test got to land the helicopter. As a class, as a whole, we're very competitive when it comes to physical training and the books. So every test is a competition to see who can get the best score," said cadet Adam Herther."If we don't push each other, we're falling behind, and then our brothers can't rely on us in the fire ground," said cadet Garrett Sharp. For more information about training and what it takes to become a Sioux Falls firefighter, follow the link provided.
