8 new troopers join South Dakota Highway Patrol

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Eight new troopers have joined the ranks of the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

The recruits went through more than eight months of training to reach Friday's graduation ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda.

The graduates completed basic law enforcement training followed by the South Dakota Highway Patrol Recruit Academy. The recruits were in field training from early February until graduation day.

Gov. Dennis Daugaard thanked the new troopers, saying that because of law enforcement, residents are able to live in a free and independent society where order and peace prevail.

Patrol Superintendent Col. Craig Price told the recruits to have a positive attitude, take care of their families, respect other people, be good partners in the South Dakota law enforcement community and exercise their duties with humility.
