Plunging into frigid water for a good cause, Saturday

Posted: Updated:

If there's any day to take a plunge into icy cold water, Saturday was not a bad day to do it.

Out at the Sioux Falls Canaries Baseball stadium, hundreds kicked off the weekend by taking the Polar Plunge for a good cause. Participants were asked to raise at least $100 in order to jump, benefiting the South Dakota Special Olympics. Fifteen Polar Plunge events are held across the state from January through April.

People who took the plunge tell KSFY News it was well worth it.

"That's the reason we do it. It's fun to get out, support a good cause. It's great, a lot of people out from the community. A lot of fun," Eric Schulte said.

"At first, it's not very cold and if you stay in it, it's really cold! I've wanted to do it for a lot of years now," Natasha Bauman said.

Proceeds benefit the athletes, competitions and special programs supported by the South Dakota Special Olympics every year.
