Renovation nearly complete at Sioux Falls YMCA

Posted: Updated:

The YMCA in Sioux Falls has undergone a $3.5 million renovation project since October 2013, but a big portion of the new facility will be open to members in just two weeks.

The opening day for members inside the new YMCA will be Monday, April 28th. The new facility will be open to the public on April 29th.

There will still be a transition period to move all of the equipment from the old facility to the new fitness rooms, so the YMCA will be closed from April 19-27th. During those nine days, Sanford Wellness Center at 49th and Oxbow and Family Wellness on the Tea/Ellis Road have offered YMCA members to use their facilities at no charge. Just show your picture ID and your YMCA card at the front desk of the facilities; visit their web sites for specific schedules and class offerings.

Once the new facility is open, construction crews will be moving to the 11th Street side of the building to finish construction on the basketball and racquetball courts on the third floor of the YMCA. They will also begin construction on 52 new affordable housing units.

The basketball and racquetball courts are expected to open up in June. You can follow progress of the entire project at ymcanewday.org.
