Henry man killed in two-vehicle crash

A Henry man died Monday in a two vehicle crash approximately twentymiles west of Watertown.

GilbertLewis Kittelson, 84, of Henry, was driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer eastboundon U.S. Highway 212. The visibility conditions were reduced and the roadway wassnow covered.

Kittelson was driving on the wrong side (westbound lane) of theroad when he approached a westbound snow plow, swerved to miss a head-oncollision and lost control of his vehicle. As the vehicle was sliding sidewaysin the westbound lane, it was struck by a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck drivenwest by Leo James Werdel, 62, of Clark.

Werdel and his passenger, JeanneWerdel, 61, of Clark, both sustained serious, but non-life threateninginjuries. They were both wearing seat-belts. Kittelson received fatal injuriesin the crash. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

TheSouth Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating. Clark County Sheriff's Office,Clark Ambulance, Clark Fire Department and Henry Fire Department assisted.
