Bond set at $1 million for man charged in Sioux Falls murder

It was over drugs, police say.

Brenda Lynn Hansen, 53, is dead, murdered by a man she knew, but wasn't romantically involved with, because he wanted her Oxycontin pills.

John Richard Senn, 41, is charged with first degree murder, felony murder and first degree robbery for Hansen's murder.

A judge set his bond at $1 million this afternoon, saying Senn was a danger to the community.

Around 3:30 Wednesday, police arrived at 5605 West Misty Glen Place, where they found Hansen dead.  She apparently died from stab wounds, although Police Chief Doug Barthel says they can't say for certain until her autopsy is done.

Witnesses saw Senn leave Hansen's home and he was arrested just 30 minutes after the crime at his home in the 2800 block of South Theodore Avenue.

There were three other people in the house at the time of the attack, Barthel said. Two of those were preschool-aged children. The others heard the commotion, but did not witness the murder.

Senn will make his first court appearance this afternoon in Lincoln County. Stay with KSFY News and KSFY.com for developments throughout the day.
