Memorial fund opened for Sioux Falls murder victim

Posted: Updated:

Police released new details today in Sioux Falls' second murder of the year.

53-year-old Brenda Hansen was stabbed to death – in her home – by someone she knew.

Police say John Richard Senn, 41, was arrested and charged with 5 counts: first degree murder, felony murder, second degree murder, robbery and burglary.

It was 3:30 yesterday afternoon when a 911 call came in about a fight and a woman bleeding at 5605 W. Misty Glen Place. Three adult roommates lived at the address – along with Hansen.

Her roommates heard a commotion in the house and went to see what happened. That's when they found Hansen had been stabbed and the suspect took off in a car. The roommates jotted down the license plate number and gave it to police.

Officers traced the plates to a nearby home at 2801 S. Theodore Ave. Senn came out of the home and was taken into police custody without incident.

If you'd like to help Brenda's family with expenses at this time, they've set up an account at Home Federal Bank. You can also mail donations to Home Federal Bank, Attn: Brenda Hansen Memorial Fund, 225 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls, SD 57104.
