Police found the weapon used in Sioux Falls' second murder of the year.
It happened in a home on the 5600 block of Misty Glen Place in southwest Sioux Falls Wednesday afternoon.
The suspect, John Senn, 41, was in Lincoln County court Thursday afternoon.
The court considers the suspect a flight risk so he's being held on a one million dollar cash bond.
Senn was then transported to the Minnehaha County jail.
If he's found guilty for the death of Brenda Hansen, he could face the death penalty.
Brenda Hansen's roommates heard a commotion at their home, and when they went to see what was going on, they found Brenda had been stabbed, then called 9-1-1.
Sioux Falls Police Chief Doug Barthel said "life saving attempts were conducted on our victim and unfortunately they were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead at the scene."
The suspect, John Senn, took off in a car but her roommates got his license plate number.
Police tracked Senn down and arrested him.
"It's an unfortunate incident, our hearts certainly go out to the Hansen family, it is also comforting to know that we were able to resolve this case quite quickly. As a matter of fact, from the initial time that we were notified, until the time that we had a subject in custody was less than a half an hour," Barthel said.
