Replacement ignition parts arrive for some GM recall customers

Posted: Updated:

Many General Motors customers have been waiting to replace a faulty ignition switch in their cars.

It could cause some cars to shut off without warning.

This is one recall you don't want to ignore.

KSFY News looked into how to to find out if your car needs to be repaired.

Many have been waiting on replacement parts since GM first announced the recall in February.

The shipments are starting to come in this week.

But since the parts have to be ordered based on each car's VIN number, it's something GM car owners should check on as soon as possible.

GM's recent recall has millions of cars headed for the shop.

Luxury Automall fixed operations manager Gaven Banik said "to get this done is at no cost at all to the customer, obviously it's a recall, if the customer did have to pay for it, it would probably be somewhere around $300."

This recall fix may be free but the cost of getting your car fixed is also priceless for some. A faulty ignition switch could cause a car to shut off at anytime without warning.

The parts are in and the wait is over, but only for some customer's cars

And if you're not sure if your car is on the list, you can look up your car's vehicle identification or vin number on carfax.com.

But this is one recall you definitely don't want to ignore.

And after one final test, mechanics will get the "OK" they've been waiting for to get their customer's cars back on the road.

Many people might not even realize they need to have their car taken in for the recall, especially if you're not the original owner or your car's make has gone out of business.

GM cars and model years affected by the defective ignition switch include:

Chevrolet Cobalt: 2005-2010

Chevrolet HHR: 2006-2011

Pontiac G5: 2007-2010

Pontiac Solstice: 2006-2010

Saturn Ion: 2003-2007

Saturn Sky: 2007-2010
