Sioux Falls dancers will compete at dance team world championships

Posted: Updated:

Thirty five local Sioux Falls dance students from Champion Legacy Dance Academy have qualified to compete at the 2014 USASF Dance Team World Championships in Orlando Florida this weekend.

The dancers, comprised of Sioux Falls middle school and high school students, qualified by winning national titles in five styles of dance earlier this year in Chicago, Dallas and Minneapolis. They will compete in the jazz, hip hop and pom dance styles and be judged on difficulty, technical execution, synchronicity and overall routine impression.

The Champion Legacy team is the only competitive dance team from South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa or Kansas to qualify to compete at The 2014 Dance Worlds.

The dancers, ranging in age from 12-21 will compete five different routines throughout the three day competition, which features over 11,000 athletes representing more than 40 countries.

“They will be competing against the best dance teams in the World,” Coach Angela Nieman said. “They have worked hard and are ready for the challenge.”

The dancers will be performing at a send-off in the Washington High School auditorium at 5 p.m. April 23.
