Ranch uses horses to help mental health

Joy Nelson owns the ranch, and her horses have been used by guests of the ranch for over 12 years. Now, with the help of equine specialist Carmen Werning, people will be able to improve their mental health on a whole new level.

"This is just another part of service that we can provide for people that may want to do equine assisted learning, or it could be psychotherapy with people that may really be struggling whether it's mental, or addictions," equine specialist, Carmen Werning said.

The program is called Eagala. It offers an opportunity to help people by using horses and metaphorical situations. Horses treat every situation differently, helping people with all their unique hardships

"It's because they are so good at reading body language. That's the way they live their lives. they see things that we most often don't see, so they can help people get through things," Werning said.

"To be able to focus energy working with horses and working with other people in order to heal, seextraordinarynary."

From post traumatic stress disorder to just getting along better with friends or family, eagala can help anyone. For more information about Joy Ranch and eagala, check out their website http://www.losd.org/rentals/joy-rentals.html for further questions emails can be sent to joyranch@losd.org.
