Two young girls miraculously survive car crashing into their Sioux Falls home

Posted: Updated:
Sioux Falls police say it’s a miracle two young girls are alive after a car crashed through a garage and into their bedroom overnight.

The driver, their 21-year-old cousin Givara Zaki, drove into the house at the 2300 block of Blauvelt Avenue around 1:19 a.m. Police say there was no alcohol involved. Zaki was charged with reckless driving.

Thankfully no one was hurt.

David Jensen, a neighbor, was woken up by a loud band just after 1 a.m. he says. He didn't think anything of it until his neighbor Theresa Hay knocked on his door.

"I came outside, walked across the street and looked and seen there was a mini-van right through the side of the house and right into the garage. It was unreal. And I couldn't put it into words," said Jensen.

"It was worse than thunder. I've never been in a tornado but it was a very loud boom," said Theresa Hay, neighbor.

Hay says she rushed to her bedroom window to see what happened outside.

"I could see lights flashing on each side of the shades so I peak out and I could see a car looking at me," said Hay.

Peering inside her next door neighbor's house -- Hay says it was the grace of God who kept those two little girls safe.

"Just look at that. You can see the basement and you can see a mattress and you can see a box spring. Wow. And nobody was hurt," said Hay.

Too close for comfort Hay says -- she has two granddaughters who have a bedroom just feet away from where the car ended up.

"What I wouldn't have felt if that would've happened to my girls. But I just keep on saying thank you God," said Hay.

The driver of the car was the cousin of the two little girls.
