Man accused of kidnapping South Dakota toddler arrested in Idaho
A 2-year-old will soon be reunited with her mother after she was kidnapped by her biological father and taken to Idaho.
Jared Swets, 24, faces felony kidnapping charges for taking the toddler.
Police said the mother felt things had been going well, and voluntarily let Swets spend time with their daughter during a visit to Sioux Falls on Tuesday. The mother has full custodial rights to their child.
But when the father didn't return with the girl, the mother called police. The case was turned over to detectives immediately, Lt. Matt Burns said.
When detectives determined Swets had left the state, they used a federal crime database to track him. Swets was arrested in Idaho and is currently in the Ada County Jail. He'll be extradited to Sioux Falls. The young girl is in good health, Burns said, and will be reunited with her mother soon.
