Storybook Land is a place kids and parents can go to have a good time.

“I come here with my dad and mom,” Joshua Chambers said. Chambers heads to the park often. The Aberdeen Sertoma Club, and Parks and Recreation Department have some new ideas to bring a little more fun to the park.

“The first ride to be put in place will be the gravity coaster, it’ll be a really nice addition to the park,” Parks and Rec. Director Doug Johnson said.

Right now Storybook Land has only a few rides, but what they do have is popular amongst guests. Plans for improving the park, don't stop at just a roller coaster.

“We hope to add up to maybe six or seven rides in the near future,” Johnson said.

They also plan on updating the castle that is over 30 years old. People of Aberdeen say they are excited for the updates, and some already have plans for when the gravity coaster is up and running. “I'll ride on it everyday,” Storybook Land visitor Dawson Swick said

If everything goes according to plan, the coaster should be up and running near Humpty Dumpty by next summer.

Storybook Land is free to visit, and in order for these upgrades to happen, funding assistance is needed. There will be opportunities to sponsor coaster cars, seats, steel track or a square foot block. If you are interested in purchasing a square foot block applications are available by contacting the Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department at their website www.aberdeen.sd.us/storybookland.
