Police show a clearer picture today of what happened in Brenda Hansen’s home last Wednesday, where she was murdered.
Hansen died from stab wounds in her home on the 5600 block of Misty Glen Place in southwest Sioux Falls. Police charged John Richard Senn, 41, with first degree murder, felony murder and first degree robbery for her death.
When officers got to the home, they saw a woman standing in front of the house holding a phone. The woman was screaming, crying and waving at officers, Detective Jonathan Carda wrote in an affidavit.
The victim was lying on the couch, a pool of blood surrounding her body. Carda states a witness attempted chest compressions, but there was a deep laceration across Hansen’s neck.
Hansen was pronounced dead on scene.
The same witness who tried to help Hansen saw Senn wipe the kitchen counters clean with a cloth and leave in a white Kia Forte.
Carda also states Senn returned to his home, where his roommate noted blood on his nose and his hand. Senn told her he fell in the garage and wiped his hands clean.
A search warrant shows police took swabs of Senn’s fingernails, clothing and home. They also seized his clothing, cell phone, and a “red snort tube with white residue.”
Senn’s currently held in the Minnehaha County Jail on a million dollar cash bond. The court considers him a flight risk.
