A Sioux Falls motorcyclist is recovering from several injuries after an accident involving multiple vehicles Friday night.

It happened just after 10:00p.m. Friday near the interception of 41st Street and Larch Avenue, just west of Marion Road.

“I was coming down 41st street and all we heard was a big crash and then we stopped and all we saw was a big crash—I started crying, it was insane, we saw two crotch rockets literally slide on the ground,” said bystander Samantha Aranda.

It was a scary scene for many motorists in the area Friday night. Two motorcycles and a tan Nissan Altima merged into the center turning lane at the same time, from opposite directions.

The Yamaha motorcycle struck the car first, ejecting its rider onto the pavement and sent the motorcycle into the eastbound lane of traffic where a pick-up ran it over.

The other motorcycle was pinned under the tan car. The rider of the Yamaha motorcycle was taken unconscious from the scene. He was treated at Sanford hospital for a broken femur and some minor abrasions.

Another driver involved in the pile up said the motorcyclist’s helmet likely saved his life.

“He was wearing his helmet, but that's why its alright... sucks that this happened to him, but as long as he was wearing his helmet, he was alright,” said Noah Brandt.

The other drivers involved in the accident did not receive any injuries. Sioux Falls Police did block off traffic to this section of 41st Street while they investigated the incident.
