U.S. Senator Tim Johnson was honored at the Sioux Falls Convention Center Saturday night.
The South Dakota Democratic Party hosted the ‘Tribute to Tim’ McGovern Day Dinner, saying Senator Johnson continued George McGovern’s legacy of being a champion of everyday South Dakotans.
Hundreds of Johnson’s supporters came out for the banquet Saturday night. Vice President Joe Biden and former Senator Tom Dashal sent their regards via video message. Also among the guests was U.S. Senator Jon Tester of Montana.
“We're here to celebrate Senator Tim Johnson’s long tenure in Congress. Tim has just been a great person to serve with, he's somebody that we just respect in incredible amounts because of the work he's done representing rural America in Washington DC and making sure that rural America doesn't get short changed,” said Senator Tester.
Senator Johnson has been serving South Dakota in Washington Since 1986; he will not be seeking re-election this year.
Right now Sioux Falls resident Rick Weiland is the only democrat in the running for Johnson’s seat on the U.S. Senate.
