Rapid City couple weds in Minnesota, challenges state's same-sex marriage laws

A same-sex couple from Rapid City said their vows in Minneapolis Saturday afternoon.

The couple plans to challenge South Dakota’s same sex marriage laws to get their union recognized in their home state.

But politics were set aside during Saturday’s ceremony that’s been a long time in the making.

Nancy and Jennie Rosenbrahn left Rapid City and came to Minneapolis to tie the not.

“This was really something that was hard for us to wrap our minds around. We never thought in our lifetime we would see marriage anywhere, anywhere at all,” said Nancy Rosenbrahn.

The couple has been together 27 years. They have four children and six grand children and say life decisions are approaching.

By getting married, they’re now eligible for more than a thousand federal marriage benefits.

The Rosenbrahn’s and two other same sex couples plan to file a federal class action civil lawsuit against South Dakota government leaders.

If successful, it could overturn South Dakota’s same-sex marriage ban.
