Axtell Park Middle School students, grads say goodbye

Posted: Updated:
The month of May marks the end of the school year for the Sioux Falls School District and many of the surrounding communities. At the same time, it marks the end of an era in the Axtell Park Middle School building in central Sioux Falls. The school first opened in the mid-1950's and has served thousands of junior high students over the years.

Students and a majority of the staff will move on to the George McGovern Middle School building on the Sioux Falls northwest side, this fall. While the student count is currently at 700, this year, the new building will have the capacity to hold more than 1,000 students. With the growth on that side of town, the new building will happily welcome new 6th-8th graders in the fall.

The former Axtell Park Middle School building will then house a number of programs for the school district, including the Joe Foss Alternative School, to be conveniently located under one roof.

Students and staff invite you to an open house to walk the halls and reminisce in the building one last time before the transition is made:

The open house will be held Thursday May 1st at 4:00 p.m. in the Axtell Park Middle School library. All former students, teachers, parents and members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend.
